Amazon Business has switched on for Amazon.com.au, giving Aussie SMEs a purpose-built procurement hub with bulk pricing, faster delivery and GST-ready invoices. Early adopters also get 30 per cent off their first order (capped at $100) until 30 June 2025. For Thriday customers the upside is double: cheaper, simpler purchasing on Amazon plus seamless expense capture and tax coding inside Thriday’s automated banking and bookkeeping platform. Below is a quick tour of the benefits and a simple action plan to hit the ground running.

What exactly launched?

  • A dedicated B2B store at business.amazon.com.au with more than 200 million items spanning office supplies, trade tools, electronics and cleaning consumables.
  • Australia is the 11th country to get Amazon Business, joining the US, UK, Germany and Japan.
  • Target audience: 2.7 million Aussie SMEs and the 14,000 local sellers already on Amazon’s platform.
  • Launch timed for end-of-financial-year stocking up, when cash-flow pressure is highest.

Five headline benefits for small businesses

  1. Business-only pricing and quantity discounts
    • Save on everyday supplies with exclusive pricing
    • Discounts kick in from just two units per order
  2. GST-compliant invoices
    • Makes BAS prep and GST claims a breeze
    • Amazon automatically generates tax invoices with all the right details (like ABNs and GST splits)
  3. Multi-user accounts and spend controls
    • Set up team members with individual logins
    • Apply approval workflows, purchase limits and role-based permissions
  4. Business Prime membership
    • Get fast, free delivery on eligible items
    • Access spend analytics, guided buying, and controls that help manage procurement
  5. Sustainability filter ("Climate Pledge Friendly")
    • Easily source products that meet certified eco standards
    • Helps support your ESG goals with more transparent purchasing

Sweetener at launch

Logistics perk

  • Same-day or next-day delivery now extends to eligible business orders in major metros (mirroring the consumer Prime promise).

Why Thriday customers should care

  1. Instant, line-item data – Every Amazon Business receipt shows supplier ABN, GST split and cost centre; Thriday’s receipt-scanning and auto-categorisation can post these straight to the right sub-account, shaving more manual bookkeeping time.
  2. Sub-account budgeting – Create a dedicated “Amazon Purchases” sub-account in Thriday, issue a virtual Thriday Visa card to staff and cap the balance to enforce the Amazon spending limit.
  3. Cash-flow clarity – Real-time feeds from Thriday’s built-in bank accounts flag large replenishment orders the moment they settle, helping you forecast GST liabilities ahead of quarter-end.
  4. EOFY efficiency – Because Amazon issues compliant invoices within 24 hours, you avoid chasing suppliers for paperwork during BAS season.

Action plan

  1. Register at business.amazon.com.au using your ABN (takes about five minutes).
  2. Verify your account to unlock the 30 % launch discount.
  3. Set spend limits & workflows to match the budgets you’ve already ring-fenced inside Thriday.
  4. Create a Thriday virtual card for the Amazon sub-account and store it as the default payment method.
  5. Turn on automated invoice downloads (Settings → Ordering → “Receive PDF invoices by email”) and forward them to your Thriday inbox.
  6. Review spend insights monthly in both Amazon (Spend Analytics) and Thriday (Cash-flow reports) to spot bulk-buy opportunities or wasteful subscriptions.

Things to watch

  • Business Prime fee – weigh the $99 p.a. Small plan against projected shipping savings; heavy purchasers usually break even in two months.
  • ABN validation lag – It can take up to one business day for Amazon’s system to mark you “GST-registered”; during that window invoices may show GST incorrectly.
  • Promo expiry – The 30% launch discount ends 30 June 2025; schedule any big office-fit-out orders before then.
