Tell us a little about your most recent work experiences...

My most recent work experience was at a consulting firm called Reveal Group. I was in their Junior Talent Incubator Program and learned how to develop robotic process automation programs that could essentially automate any repetitive human-to-computer interaction that clients wished to spend less time and energy on. That was my first exposure to tech! Having no background in coding, it was a fairly steep learning curve but I absolutely loved the constant problem-solving nature of the work.

Prior to that, I have also worked as a real estate development analyst for BEKL where I was responsible for generating feasibility studies and development strategies for commercial properties. Real estate was great because learning to work with architects, builders, interior designers and engineers all at once was an amazing experience.

Don’t be shy, tell us your superpowers!

I have a large bank of movie quotes and song lyrics in my head to pull from should they be needed for any situation, any time.

Share a little bit about your personal interests...

I am a huge fan of stand-up comedy and have been since primary school. Being born in the US, I used to watch Saturday Night Live with my sisters every week. However, lately I have been trying to spend more time doing film photography which has been a hobby of mine since high school (Check out @license_to_chill on Instagram!). I mainly photograph landscapes from time spent traveling, and candid images of my friends when we are out and about.

Which small business do you personally love the most...

The small businesses I find most charming are the neighbourhood shops, cafes and bars that are well known by the locals. They tend to attract a very loyal customer base for their quality and service essentially giving them a 'moat' that their competitors can't overcome. Melbourne is full of good examples as well, whether its 'I Love Pho' in Richmond or the beloved 'Universal Restaurant' in Carlton, the loyal customers of these establishments will tell you, there is no substitute for what these local legends have to offer.

Favourite movie, song and food!

For movies, Stand by Me is an all-time favourite of mine that I always go back to to feel nostalgic.

Music is harder to say because I have been listening to a lot of different genres but the song I have had on repeat for the past week is Missing by Everything But The Girl.

I am a sucker for good food. I would probably go so far as saying it’s my main motivation to travel to new places. It’s difficult to say one thing or even one cuisine, but I also find it hard to imagine a better meal than a warm bowl of tonkotsu ramen on a cold day.

Welcome to the family, Bill!
